I have experienced the joys and stresses, successes and failures that come with owning a business in a high risk/reward industry. I’ve bought and sold businesses, had hundreds of employees, worked with some brilliant people and created innovative projects that I am actually very proud of. And yet, I felt I was missing something, or rather not seeing or not aware of something that was preventing me from having a more complete experience of life. I believed I had more to offer my family, friends, projects, colleagues, employees, – even my dogs. Years of therapy left me feeling like I was burning up my mind for a solution that my mind alone could never fully manifest.
This is when I began working with Sura. She talked to me about the importance of body, balance, nutrition, breathing, flexibility, strength and managing energy and pain. We discussed yoga, meditation, diet, exercise, sleep and being more present in everything I do. She related all of this to the various leadership roles I play and how being more present will make me a more effective leader in all aspects of life. I began to recognize the possibility of finally making a connection to what I believed had eluded me for so long and I decided to go forward.
Now, I should note here, I was extremely skeptical of any frooffy, incense burning, omm chanting, lotus sitting, transcendental nonsense that seems to exist in some parallel universe of endeavor not connected to my very real life. This was not the case.
Perhaps it is her experience on Wall Street, or her training, or other experiences that have informed the way Sura combines and implements the disciplines that comprise her unique program. Or, perhaps she is just gifted. But, from the very beginning, the practices she led me through never felt pointless or self serving, but rather, surprisingly tangible and directed to my goals. She met strength with strength, fear with reassurance and confusion with clarity. Her coaching style, yoga, meditation and healing began raising my awareness and enabling me to recognize energies, aspects, intentions and, quite frankly, thoughtlessness that I had not been conscious of in my daily interactions. I came to regard Sura as an instrument of progress – each session with her revealed more, opened more, enabled more of my own effectiveness as a Father, boss, partner and friend.
I have come to believe that “being seen” is one of life’s greatest gifts. Being seen in an authentic way can help you see yourself. I am writing this because I believe that Sura has a gift that enables her to “see” in a very special way. She sees what is – from the sober perspective of ancient wisdom. She sees what can be – with the elation of eternal youth.
She saw me, and I am now beginning to see more of myself.
